Many moods of the sea are portrayed in this varied and gripping musical scenario. The beginning evokes a tranquil sea, later being tossed by growing winds. The work builds to present the maelstrom of a raging storm, with perhaps the most powerful ending since The Pines of Rome. This is a great programmatic work for festival or concert use by advancing bands.
