String Orchestra
La Paloma
Composed by
Spanish Folk Song
Arranged By
La Paloma is a popular Spanish song that was written by Sebastian Yradier after he visited Cuba. The song is written in the musical style of an Habanera, which combines Cuban rhythms with traditional Spanish Flamenco rhythms. La Paloma became very popular in Mexico, where many mariachi groups adapted the song to fit their particular instrumentation. It still remains popular with mariachis today, and this arrangement presents a good opportunity for string orchestras to play authentic mariachi music.
