The lyrics of this familiar song were by playwright Ben Johnson, who in 1616 wrote a poem called Song to Celia. The music probably dates back to about 1790. Musically, after a brief introduction, the melody occurs in the 1st violins. The arranger has added some fresh harmonic touches to spice up an already pretty tune.
